CDMP and CRTWC Professional Certifications

The CDMP and CRTWC certifications enhance expertise in workplace health, absence, and return-to-work processes. Tailored for the UK, they support professionals working with individuals with long-term health conditions. Certification holders must complete annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain their status. Both the CDMP and CRTWC course have been developed by National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR)

There has been a steady growth in the number of candidates undertaking this training including Health Professionals, Employability, Supported Employment, HR, Income Protection Return-to-work teams and Government Contractors; all having recognised the benefit of the link between the workplace and health rehabilitation offered by these wide-ranging courses.

Professional Disability Management and Return to Work Certification

Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP)
The CDMP certification is designed for professionals dedicated to managing disability and absence, as well as those advocating for effective Return to Work (RTW) policies. CDMPs may work within their organisations or as external consultants, supporting workers with long-term health conditions or disabilities through direct services and strategic roles, such as policy development and programme management. This 10-day UK-adapted programme includes a rigorous examination, typically held in May, overseen by the International Disability Management Standards Council UK and Ireland and developed with Pacific Coast University for Work Health Sciences in Canada.

Certified Return to Work Co-ordinator (CRTWC)
The CRTWC certification specifically focuses on efficiently facilitating the return to work for individuals with long-term health conditions or disabilities across diverse employment environments. This designation is particularly suitable for professionals who coordinate RTW processes, ensuring a smooth transition back to the workplace. Adapted for the UK, this 5-day training programme also includes an examination, generally administered in May. Like the CDMP, this certification is managed in collaboration with respected institutions to ensure consistency and reliability in standards.

Certification Standards and Examination Process
Both CDMP and CRTWC certifications are based on stringent occupational standards, established through collaboration with global experts, major employers, worker compensation boards, and unions. The examinations, consisting of 250 multiple-choice questions per designation, are structured to meet psychometric stability and validity requirements. Certification exams are conducted by Pacific Coast University for Work Health Sciences in Canada, with UK administration by the International Disability Management Standards Council (IDMSC).

Continuing Professional Development
To maintain their certifications, CDMP and CRTWC professionals are required to complete 20 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) annually. This ongoing learning ensures that certified professionals remain informed about the latest practices and strategies within disability management and return to work coordination.
